— and I’m here to help you bake & decorate with confidence.
I teach cake decorating and baking in a way that’s simple, approachable, and stress-free — so you can stop feeling overwhelmed and start creating bakes you’re truly proud of.
Where It All Began
My love for baking started when I was a child, standing on a chair next to my mum in the kitchen. Years later, I discovered my grandad had been a baker too — so perhaps it’s always been in my blood.
After having my two daughters, I began baking birthday cakes for them — and before long, family and friends were asking for cakes too. That’s when my little hobby started to grow into something more.
From “The Muffin Lady” to Cake Business Owner
When we moved to New Zealand in 2006, I followed my passion and began selling baked goods locally. Three times a week I’d head out with a basket full of freshly baked muffins — and soon became known as “The Muffin Lady.”
Not long after, I opened my first cake shop, All About Cakes. I sold cake decorating supplies, took custom orders, ran classes, and gave demonstrations. That’s where I first discovered my true calling — teaching others how to bake and decorate with confidence.

Windsor Cake Craft & Coming Home
When we returned to the UK, I joined the team at Windsor Cake Craft, where I helped run classes, supported customers, managed supplies, and worked as a supervisor for their Cake Academy.
It was such a joy to share my knowledge, guide people in choosing the right tools, and continue doing what I love most — helping others learn and create.
Where I Am Now
I now live in a quiet village in Derbyshire, running my two businesses — Sharon Burchall Cake Studio and Floral Cupcakes.
At Floral Cupcakes, I create made-to-order bakes specialising in floral and cupcake bouquets, celebration cakes, and wedding cakes. Each one is crafted with care and attention to detail, designed to bring joy and that special “wow” moment to every occasion.
Through Sharon Burchall Cake Studio, I teach others how to bake and decorate with confidence — using simple, approachable, and stress-free methods. I currently host in-person classes at The Hub in Clay Cross, where home bakers can come along, learn new techniques, and discover just how enjoyable cake decorating can be.
Each week, I also volunteer at Chesterfield College, teaching baking to students with special needs — something I find incredibly rewarding. Watching their confidence grow through baking brings me so much joy.
Alongside my in-person classes, I’m now developing online classes and courses so that home bakers can learn from me wherever they are. I’m currently working on my very first online class — and I can’t wait to make my lessons accessible to even more people.
And as another exciting project, I’m collaborating with Taste Restaurant at Chesterfield College on a new concept — Cake & Cocktails.
This will be a bookable experience perfect for birthdays, hen parties, and special get-togethers, where guests can choose their decorating theme, enjoy a complimentary cocktail, and make memories over cakes, creativity, and laughter.
We’ll be developing the Cake & Cocktails experience soon — and I can’t wait to share it.
Why I Do This
When I started baking, there were no YouTube videos, no online classes, and no step-by-step tutorials — just a few books and a lot of trial and error.
I still remember the first decorated cake I ever made — back in 1993, for my daughter’s first birthday. It was a little pink whale from a book: smiling face, one candle on top. It looked perfect in the picture… mine didn’t look quite like that!
I was proud that I’d made her cake, but a bit disappointed that it didn’t look the way I imagined. That moment stuck with me. I know what it’s like to try your best, to want it to be beautiful, and to feel a little deflated when it isn’t.
That’s why I teach the way I do — with kindness, clarity, and encouragement. Because I’ve been there. I know how it feels to start from scratch, to make mistakes, and to keep going anyway.
Now, I’m here to make your journey easier — with simple, step-by-step classes, guides, and tutorials that take out the guesswork and put the joy back into baking and decorating.
Because beautiful cakes don’t have to be complicated.

Here are a few of the wonderful places and businesses I’m connected with — where creativity, community, and cakes come together.
